I think the best choice in every case would be the Cervelo P3C. At only $4-6000 depending on what kind of wheelset(s) you get. I would probably put money into that before a car.
You win Chase, but what are you going to transport it on? The current train system sucks in the US. You've been in Germany too long while we suffer with the lack of public transportation.
With that being said I think you would be duly set to put your bike on an Audi A3 or Mini Cooper:)
